Sports Minister nominee Kofi Adams has committed to prioritising the upkeep of Ghana’s sporting facilities, ensuring that stadiums and training centres remain in good condition.
Over the years, poor maintenance has led to the decline of key sports venues, impacting not just football but various other disciplines.
Appearing before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Thursday, January 30, Adams underscored the need for proper infrastructure maintenance to support athlete development.
“There are stadiums and training centres that have been left to deteriorate over time. If we are serious about producing world-class athletes, then we must make sure they have the right facilities to train and compete,” he stated.
The Buem MP assured that under his leadership, a strong maintenance culture would be enforced to prevent further deterioration.
“We will not allow any facility to deteriorate to the point where we could even be banned from using it.
“With the very minimal resources we have, we will ensure that we maintain our existing facilities while also building new ones,” he added.
Following his vetting, Adams now awaits parliamentary approval to officially assume the role of Minister for Sports and Recreation under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.
