Kofi Adams pledges to prioritise maintenance of Sports facilities

The Minister-designate for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has pledged to make the upkeep of the country’s sports facilities a key priority under the new administration.

Over the years, many sporting venues across the country have fallen into a state of neglect, raising concerns about their condition.

Facilities such as the Borteyman Sports Complex have been highlighted as needing urgent and sustained maintenance to remain in top shape.

Speaking during his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Thursday, January 30, Adams assured that his ministry would tackle these challenges head-on.

“Under the leadership of His Excellency the President, we are going to improve upon maintenance culture,” he stated.

“We will not allow any facility to deteriorate to the point where we could even be banned from using it. With the very minimal resources we have, we will ensure that we maintain our existing facilities while also building new ones.”

His commitment comes in the wake of Ghana’s struggles with inadequate sports infrastructure.

Last year, the Black Stars had to relocate their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan from Kumasi to Accra after CAF ruled that the venue was unfit for hosting international matches—an issue Adams is determined to prevent in the future.
