The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has expressed concern over the current state of the Ghana Premier League, describing it as being in a “sorry state.”
The nation’s top-flight football competition has faced several challenges, including hooliganism, poor officiating, a lack of sponsorship, and inadequate television coverage.
Adams acknowledged that significant efforts are needed to restore the league’s former prestige.
“Our Premier League is in a sorry state,” Kofi Adams told LUV FM.
“Underfunded, poor discipline, [poor] corporate governance system, fan indiscipline, lack of security—we are not even coaching our fans.
“We need to look at all these areas to try and up our game,” he added.
The 49-year-old was officially sworn into office by President John Mahama on Friday.
Adams, who serves as the Member of Parliament for the Buem constituency, replaces Mustapha Ussif, who held the position since 2021 under the New Patriotic Party government led by Nana Akufo-Addo.
