“The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Obiri Danso, flouted the instruction of the President not to implement this mixed hall policy but he ignored it, now look,” he fumed.
Students of KNUST hit the streets to protest what they described as the constant brutalities of their colleagues by the university’s security on the alleged orders of Prof. Obiri-Danso.
It started peacefully until the situation escalated when masked armed policemen and students came face-to-face amidst pelting of stones and sporadic firing of warning shots at the Destiny Block area.
The school has been closed down and the Council has imposed a 12-hour curfew on the campus from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, which took effect on Monday.

“I saw females as part of the demonstration so clearly it has got nothing to do with the hall conversion,” he stated.
The NPP man said the riot of the school could have been avoided if proper consultation was done with the students.
He called on the government to, as a matter of urgency, sack the KNUST Vice Chancellor for peace to prevail.
