Everyone has their own shower routine. Some like to start with head wash, while others wash their hair towards the end. But there is one thing that is quite controversial and that is whether one should wash their face while bathing or not.
Why?
The main reason why you should not wash your face in the shower is because the water used for bathing is typically much hotter, according to a dermatologist from Chicago. Though after a tough workout it might feel good but hot water is very damaging for facial skin and can cause irritation.
The hotter the water, the more drying effect it has on your face. Also, too much hot water on the face can produce excess pigment or discoloration of the skin.
Other reasons
Another reason why you should not wash face in shower is due to the time taken in the shower. Too much exposure to water can damage and irritate the skin.
Why you should wash face in the sink?
Moving your face wash routine to the sink cuts down the amount of water that comes in contact with the body and shortens the shower time. Ideal shower time should be between five to ten minutes, recommend dermatologists.
Though washing your face in the shower might be bad for your skin, but there is a way to do it carefully and avoid the negatives. Shower briefly and just once a day with lukewarm water. Avoid loofahs on the face to reduce skin damage and irritation.
