Residents of Dzita in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region, are yet to come to terms with news of serial killings there after yet another bizarre death was recorded.

This comes after the body of a man believed to be mentally unstable was found buried under a heap of sand along the beach two days ago.

Residents tell Joy News, the situation is becoming alarming especially, for those are not natives in the town but are there to work.

“The situation is becoming too alarming and worrying…We live in fear daily,” a resident lamented.

According to them, over 10 residents including three children have been killed in the area between 2013 and 2017 while their body parts were missing.

“The police must do something about the situation to avoid any future occurrence as innocent lives are being lost almost every six months. This is making us live in fear,” grieved one of the residents who recently lost a family member.

Dzita, Agbledomi and Anyanui, had, prior to the strings of murders, been very peaceful fishing and farming communities.

The residents stayed out late at night before retiring to their homes without entertaining any fear of being attacked.

An elderly person who spoke with Joy News correspondent Ivy Setordzi said, the town was once peaceful until fear started to grip them following the mysterious deaths.

“We used to enjoy our nights outside even deep in the night without fear but we cannot afford to even have fresh air even at 8 pm for the fear of being attacked by these serial killers,” the elder lamented.

The residents are therefore appealing to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante Apeatu to do something about their situation before more lives are lost.
