The Coalition of Unemployed Allied Health Professionals at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) has called off their strike, issuing a seven-day ultimatum to the government.

The coalition is drawing urgent attention to the plight of trained Allied Health professionals who have remained unemployed for nearly five years.

Since 2023, the coalition has engaged in numerous discussions and sent countless letters to the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Finance, and the general public, all to no avail. Despite assurances that postings would occur soon, no concrete action has been taken.

The coalition noted that it is the government’s responsibility to address the dire situation faced by these professionals, who are forced to renew their Professional Identification Numbers (PINs) annually without being able to practice.

The coalition includes Medical Laboratory Scientists, Community Mental Health Workers, Disease Control Officers, Field Technicians, Health Promotion Officers, Health Information Officers, Records Officers, and other skilled professionals who have completed their training, national service, and licensure exams since 2019.

The coalition is calling on the Ministry of Finance to grant financial clearance and on the Ministry of Health, along with other relevant agencies, to open their portals for these professionals.

The coalition stresses the importance of utilizing the skills, knowledge, and resources invested in their training.

In their statement, the coalition urges relevant stakeholders to expedite action on this matter. Failure to address their concerns within the seven-day ultimatum may result in more vigorous actions to register their displeasure with the government.

The coalition remains hopeful that their appeal will be met with the usual cooperation and prompt response from the authorities.
