Katanga Hall conversion: Gov’t prevails upon KNUST authorities to change stand

-

The government of Ghana has, through the Ministry of education, written to the governing council of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to make University Hall a mixed hall.

A letter written by the Minister of Education, Mathew Opoku Prempeh, said while the council and management of the university reserved the right to take any decision they deemed fit, it was important that they considered other views.

“I, therefore, wish to reiterate the position of government on this matter that (Katanga) University Hall remain a male hall of residence as is prevailing in other sister universities, example Commonwealth Hall in UG, Caseley Hayford Hall in UCC, Union, ECOWAS and Savanna Halls in UDS,” the letter dated September 5, stated in part.

The letter added: “To preserve a peaceful and conducive environment for effective academic work and cordial relationship in the University, the ministry prevails upon you to reconsider this conversion policy”.
