Directed by Nick Knight, the film was promoted as an inside look into the Chicago rapper’s Sunday Service. The big-screen showing featured 13 songs, including some of West’s older hits as well as three new tracks.
Reflecting his reported renunciation of secular music, the film is centered on a 50-member gospel choir.
West divulged his vision for Sunday Service in behind-the-scenes clips for the movie.
“We’re here to spread the gospel,” he said in a voice over. “I’m not here for your entertainment. … I use art to make believers.”
