Ghana forward Kamaldeen Sulemana has acknowledged the need to be more effective in front of goal as he works to elevate his game to the next level.
The Southampton winger, who has faced criticism for inconsistency since joining the Premier League, admitted that his goal and assist output has been underwhelming and is an area he’s determined to improve.
Speaking to Showmax, Sulemana said he draws inspiration from legendary players Ronaldinho and Jay-Jay Okocha—not just for their flair, but also for the joy they brought to the game.
“Ronaldinho and Jay-Jay made people smile as well; they made people enjoy the game. And that is what I want to do, but I want to be able to back it up with goals and assists,” he said.
“That is the only thing missing from my game. I am pushing and working hard to add to that. I don’t only want to be an entertainer, but rather a complete player,” he added.
Sulemana was part of the Southampton squad that was relegated from the Premier League after a 3-1 loss to Tottenham, marking his second career relegation.
Since his move to England, the 22-year-old has scored four goals and provided seven assists in 67 appearances across all competitions.
During his stint with French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais, he registered six goals and four assists in 47 matches.
In total, Sulemana has recorded 24 goals and 17 assists in 158 career appearances—a tally he is determined to increase as he continues to develop.
