News just in suggests that Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress, has been picked up.
The arrest happened shortly after his discussion on UTV’s Adekye Nsroma show.
He was arrested by men who introduced themselves as coming from the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service.
He said the plain- clothed security officers who arrested him came with two vehicles – a Toyota Landcruiser and one Pickup vehicle with registration number VR 4870-12.
Just as the outspoken NDC stalwart was making his way to board his vehicle after the show had ended, the CID officers suddenly surfaced, produced a warrant and in a flash, picked him away.
Eric Adjei, a member of the NDC’s communications team confirmed the news of his arrest to Adomonline.com.
The reason for the arrest is unknown but sources say it may be linked to complaints of cybercrime lodged against the NDC communicator by the Jubilee House.
His lawyers and national chairman of the NDC, Ofosu Ampofo are currently with him to find out why he has been picked up.
Mr Gyamfi has been under investigation since December last year over alleged cybercrime offences.
He has been accused of forgery and publication of false information targeted at tarnishing the image of the Akufo-Addo government.
His last trip to the Police Headquarters in honour of an invitation on December 23, 2019, was rescheduled by the security service.
Mr Gyamfi subsequently filed a suit at the Accra High Court asking for his arrest warrant to be overturned.
