JUST IN: Morocco misses out on hosting 2026 World Cup

Morocco has missed out on their bid to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup after member countries voted for a joint North American bid instead.

The United bid of the United States Football Federation,the Mexican Football Association and the Canadian Football Association have won the rights to host the 2026 World Cup. The United bid beat off stiff competition from Morocco in a vote done a few moments ago.

The ‘United 2026’ bid was selected by FIFA member nations, winning 134 votes compared to 65 for Morocco.

The 2026 tournament will be the biggest World Cup ever held – with 48 teams playing 80 matches over 34 days.

Both Mexico (1970 and 1986) and the United States (1994) have previously hosted World Cups.
