A self-styled spiritualist is before the Accra Circuit court for allegedly having in his possession a total of US$15,900.00 in fake notes and two wrapped pieces of dried green leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
Henrictch Amafule is also alleged to have falsely claimed that he could double an amount of US$90.000 within two weeks.
“Police conducted a search in his room and found a dead chameleon, the sixth and seventh books of Moses, eight candles and a trunk which he claims he uses for spiritual incantation”, Chief Inspector(C/I) Kwabena Adu told the court.
When he appeared before the court, presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh, Amafule pleaded not guilty to the possession of fake currency, narcotic drug and defrauding by false pretence.
The case was adjourned to January 22, 2018 for further investigations.
Presenting the facts to the court, C/I Adu said in November 2017 at Kuntunse, Amafule introduced himself as a spiritual father to the complainant and told him he had foreseen a vision and that the complainant was going to get a financial breakthrough within a month.
C/I Adu said Amafule told the complainant that he should withdraw all his savings and hand it over to him and that with prayers and the necessary spiritual purification rites, the money would be doubled within two weeks.
The complainant became convinced and handed over the amount to Amafule to be doubled.
But the accused failed to honour his promise after the period and kept giving the complainant untenable excuses.
On December 6, 2017, the complainant became alarmed and reported the case to the police.
He led the police to the Banoc hotel at Medie where Amafule was arrested in his hotel room.
