Jordan Ayew urges teammates to adapt to Otto Addo’s vision

Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has urged his teammates to respect and adjust to head coach Otto Addo’s long-term vision despite the team’s recent struggles.

Ghana’s senior national team has faced a difficult period, with back-to-back group-stage exits at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon and Ivory Coast, followed by failure to qualify for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.

These setbacks have contributed to Ghana dropping out of the top 70 in the latest FIFA World Rankings.

Speaking to Joy Sports ahead of Ghana’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium, the Leicester City forward acknowledged the ongoing squad transition but remained optimistic about a turnaround.

“We don’t have the team we had between 2006 and 2019. In 2010, the transition was seamless, with the U-20 players joining an already strong squad,” Ayew noted.

“But this current transition has been radical, with about 10, 11, or 12 new players introduced during various call-ups.”

Despite these changes, Ayew expressed confidence in Otto Addo’s leadership and the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) long-term strategy.

“At the end of the day, it’s football, and I feel the coach and the GFA have a long-term plan, so we need to respect it and adapt,” he stated.

Ayew is set to lead the Black Stars in their crucial qualifier against Chad at 19:00 GMT before the team travels to Morocco to face Madagascar on Monday.
