Ghana forward Jordan Ayew has praised his compatriot Abdul Fatawu Issahaku for his hard work and dedication, which led him to the Premier League.
The 20-year-old Issahaku initially joined Leicester City on loan from Sporting CP last season after facing difficulties breaking into the Portuguese club’s squad.
Despite the challenges, he played a key role in helping Leicester earn promotion back to the Premier League, which secured him a five-year contract with the club.
Speaking about Issahaku’s progress, Ayew, who signed with Leicester this summer after leaving Crystal Palace, expressed admiration for the young winger.
“It’s really great, actually. I met Abdul for the first time at the national training camp with Ghana around six years ago. This just shows that the boy has done a really good job and has worked hard to get to where he is today. All credit goes to him” Ayew said in an interview with Showmax.
Ayew added that he is at Leicester not just to continue his career but also to support Issahaku’s development, acknowledging the challenges young players often face.
“I was very lucky because I had my brother and a few other senior players who were always advising me,” he shared.
“Now that I am here and have been in the position to know how it is, I can guide him, but I can also be hard on him when necessary. It’s all positive for him” he added.
So far, Jordan Ayew has appeared in eight matches for Leicester City, while Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has played nine times. Both players are expected to be in action when Leicester visits Southampton at St. Mary’s on Saturday.
