The Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of collapsing the economy he handed over to them in 2017.
Speaking at Ejura Sekyedumase as part of his five-day tour of the Ashanti Region, Mahama criticized President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for failing to sustain the agricultural growth achieved under his administration, which he claims has led to increased hunger and poverty.
“The economy we handed over to them was far better than what we are experiencing today,” Mahama said. “They have failed to sustain growth in agriculture, and their policies have left farmers neglected and struggling.”
Mahama highlighted the significant role of Ejura Sekyedumase as a food-producing hub, using the platform to justify why voters should back his bid for a return to power.
“This constituency is known for its food-growing potential, yet the current government has turned its back on farmers. That is why I am here to remind you of my vision for agriculture and to assure you that the NDC will do better for farmers,” he stated.
The former president outlined the NDC’s proposed Farmer Service initiative, which he described as a policy aimed at ensuring growth in the agricultural sector.
“We are committed to introducing the Farmer Service initiative, which will provide the necessary support to boost productivity and improve the livelihoods of farmers,” he said.
John Mahama also shared several key policies he plans to implement if elected, emphasizing his dedication to addressing the challenges facing farmers and reviving the economy.
He ended by urging the people of Ejura Sekyedumase to vote for the NDC, assuring them of his resolve to restore economic stability and prioritize the welfare of farmers.
The tour continues, with Mahama focusing on engaging grassroots supporters and addressing sector-specific concerns in various constituencies across the region.
