The final day of the anti-galamsey protest recorded significant support from prominent figures, including actor and politician John Dumelo and social media influencer, Efia Odo.

The three-day exercise which commenced on Thursday, October 3, was to highlight the devastating effects of illegal mining locally known as galamsey.

Organised by the pressure group, Concerned Citizens Against Galamsey, it was also to demand the release of some 53 Ghanaians who were arrested and remanded during an anti-galamsey demonstration by the Democracy Hub.

The conveners as part of the protest submitted a petition to the Attorney General’s Office, calling for the release of Democracy Hub protesters and an immediate end to illegal mining.
The petition submitted on Thursday was received by Isaac Wilberforce Mensah, spokesperson for the Attorney General’s Office.

On Friday, another petition was submitted to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and was received by the Technical Director of Mines, Peter Awuah.
