Former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart has praised Thomas Partey for his exceptional performance against his former team.
Arsenal welcomed the defending champions to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon, where Partey, playing in midfield, was a standout. His impressive display was marked by his ability to disrupt Manchester City’s play and his precise passing distribution.
After Martin Ødegaard opened the scoring to give Arsenal a 1-0 lead at halftime, Manchester City equalised through Erling Haaland. However, Partey quickly restored the Gunners’ advantage with a stunning strike.
Arsenal’s dominance continued in the second half, with Myles Lewis-Skelly extending the lead to 3-1 in the 62nd minute after being set up by Declan Rice. In the 76th minute, Kai Havertz made it 4-1, finishing off a well-timed pass from Gabriel Martinelli.
The scoring was completed in stoppage time when Ethan Nwaneri connected brilliantly with a cross from Declan Rice, securing a comprehensive 5-1 victory.
Following the match, Hart spoke highly of the Ghanaian midfielder, noting his relentless energy and control of the game alongside Ødegaard.
“Thomas Partey was excellent against Manchester City,” the former English international said on Premier League Production. “He did not stop running in midfield. Partey and Martin Ødegaard controlled the game well, especially in midfield, but Partey was excellent,” he added.
With his goal against City, Partey now has three goals and two assists in the Premier League this season.
Partey will now look to help Arsenal secure a spot in the Carabao Cup final when they travel to Newcastle United for the second leg of their semifinal on Wednesday, after losing 2-0 at home in the first leg.
