Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has urged Ghanaians to exercise patience and understanding as the nation prepares for an anticipated 14.75% increase in electricity tariffs, effective May 3, 2025.
This adjustment, as communicated by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), is a strategic measure aimed at stabilizing the energy sector and addressing longstanding operational and financial challenges.
Speaking at the Committee of Ministers meeting for the West African Gas Pipeline Project in Accra, Mr. Jinapor emphasized the critical role of this review in ensuring the sustainability of the nation’s power supply and supporting ongoing reforms within the sector.
“I want to appeal to Ghanaians and the general consuming public to bear with us, even as we make some of these difficult but unavoidable decisions to ensure that we have stable and reliable power sources for our economic development,” he stated.
