An educationist, Annis Hafar has backed government’s decision to introduce a new school uniform for Junior High School (JHS) pupils in Ghana.

To Mr Hafar, the introduction of the new uniform shows a sense of importance to the pupils and shows that the Ghana Education Service (GES) is committed and paying attention to JHS pupils.

The Director-General of GES, Prof Kwasi Opoku Amankwa at a press conference on Thursday announced that the GES has introduced a new school uniform for JHS pupils.

Speaking on Accra-based Citi FM, Mr Hafar, who is a Council member of the GES, said the introduction of the new uniform was a step in the right direction and a way of promoting personal hygiene.

“Bringing in something new never hurts, we live in a very dynamic world; we don’t want things to be so static. We want the children to see that it is a new day, there are new expectations and there is nothing wrong with changing uniform as long as there is enough for them to wear.

“The psychology is important in the sense that they would feel we are paying attention to them [JHS pupils]. Being hygienic is part of a school system that supports the psychology of pupils,” he added.
