Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe and a member of the ministerial vetting committee, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has expressed deep frustration over the chaos that erupted in Parliament during the ministerial vetting on January 31, 2024.

Speaking on Prime Morning on Joy Prime with Roselyn Felli, the MP described the incident as “regrettable and unfortunate,” insisting that propaganda has exaggerated the situation to tarnish his image.

Shaib, who became emotional during the interview, said the turmoil affected him deeply, requiring the intervention of his wife, mother, and constituents to console him.

“I am not a violent person. I have never committed to doing anything physical in my political career,” he emphasized.

However, he claimed that members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) provoked him physically, alleging that three to four NDC MPs attempted to push a table into his lower body.

He singled out Charles Asiedu, son of NDC National Chairman Asiedu Nketia, as one of the individuals involved, pointing to viral video evidence.

Shaib further lamented that he was not given a fair hearing when decisions were made regarding the incident. “I feel very sad and pained because I was wrongfully accused. If nothing at all, I was one of the people going around trying to calm tempers when tensions were rising,” he stated.

While some have called for him to apologize, Shaib insists that the narrative has been unfairly twisted against him. He expressed hope that such incidents would not recur in Ghana’s legislative process, urging for fairness and truth in political reporting.
