THE INFORMANT who divulged sensitive information that led to the arrest of the suspect accused of murdering Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu, then Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North, has disclosed that his life is in danger.
The informant (name withheld) gave police information that led to the arrest of Daniel Asiedu, the main suspect of the murder of the MP and another suspect, Vincent Bosso.
According to him, the country had neglected him in terms of providing security and his needs because the information he gave to the police had led to him being rendered jobless.
He said the information he gave to the police had rendered him, his sister, brother, wife and baby not just jobless but homeless.
He said he and his family had been forced to find a safe place for refuge as they have become targets of attacks by the loved ones of the suspects.
Suspect tried to kill him
The informant claimed without providing a proof that prior to the arrest of Asiedu, the suspect got wind of information that he (informant) had given information that could lead to his arrest, hence attempted to stab him (informant) to death.
He said but for the timely intervention of his brother who came to his rescue, he would have been stabbed to death.
The frustrated father of two told Fiifi Banson yesterday on ‘Anopa Kasapa’ on Kasapa FM that the assurance of witness-protection and financial support promised him by the police was truncated when the former Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, COP Dr George Akuffo Dampare, was transferred.
The informant said COP Dampare gave him shelter for two months before handing him over to the Bureau of National Investigations.
But the police subsequently withdrew all forms of protection and support for his family as promised, after the media and public attention on the issue dwindled.
“I felt it was my responsibility to relay vital information concerning the possible murderers of an MP of this country just to help the nation, his family and his memory but this singular act has ended the little social life my family used to enjoy,” he told host Banson.
Though the police gave him GH¢ 10,000.00 bounty as promised, he said the money had been expended and he is unable to work because his life is in danger.
Background
Asiedu was arrested in 2016 after he was alleged to have stabbed the MP with a knife, leading to his death at his residence in Accra. The lawmaker was killed on February 9, 2016 in his room at his Shiashie residence.
After months of trial, the prime suspect and his alleged accomplice were discharged by the Criminal Division of the High Court presided over by Justice Lawrence Lazzagla Mensah after the Attorney General had indicated that they had filed a Nolle Prosequi to end the matter.
But the two were later rearrested by the police.
