In a significant move to enhance the learning environment for students, the Buem-Jasikan Municipal Assembly in the Oti Region has donated over 920 mono desks to the Ghana Education Service (GES) for onward distribution to schools.
The contribution of the desks aims to address the pressing issue of inadequate furniture in local schools to ensure that students have access to proper seating arrangements conducive to learning.
In a short ceremony to hand over the furniture at Bueman SHS, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Elizabeth Kessewa Adjorno, emphasized the importance of providing quality educational resources to students in the municipality.
According to her, education is the bedrock of society, and it is the Assembly’s responsibility to ensure that every child has the necessary tools to succeed.
The MCE underlined that the provision of these desks is part of a broader initiative to improve educational infrastructure in the municipality.
She said the government’s commitment to the education sector was not in doubt and that, with the support from government, more infrastructure needs of schools would be addressed to overcome challenges impeding effective teaching and learning.
Mrs. Adjorno indicated that the government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo places great value on education, expressing optimism that the 920 mono desks will help address the existing 4,000 deficit and tackle some of the educational challenges in the area.
The MCE appealed to beneficiary schools to take good care of the desks while adhering to a culture of maintenance to enable the government to channel resources into other sectors of the educational space for national development.
Receiving the desks on behalf of the GES, the acting Education Director, Roselyn Kafui Ofori, expressed gratitude for the assembly’s support.
She noted that many schools in the municipality have been struggling with a shortage of furniture, which has hindered effective teaching and learning.
The acting Education Director promised that her office would ensure all schools preserve the desks and also intensify monitoring and supervision to improve teaching and learning.
