Jackie Ankrah drops powerful music video, ‘My Ghana, your Ghana’ – a star-studded call for peace

-

Ghanaian musician, actress, and broadcaster Jackie Ankrah has just released a heartwarming music video for her new song, My Ghana, Your Ghana.

This patriotic anthem brings together an array of renowned Ghanaian voices in a creative peace advocacy effort, with notable contributions from Cwesi Oteng, Perez Musik, Efe Grace, Mary Ghansah, Diana Hopeson, former Musicians Union President, and Pastor Ella Somuah of ICGC.

My Ghana, Your Ghana is more than just a song—it’s a timely call for unity, hope, and peace, especially in the lead-up to Ghana’s December 2024 elections.

The song encourages national pride, harmony, and togetherness while celebrating the values that unite the nation.

However, its message is not confined to the political sphere—it’s a timeless appeal for peace and cooperation.

The song’s powerful coalition features an impressive lineup of seventeen influential personalities, including media figures like Gifty Anti, Fred Amugi, Edinam Atatsi, Gloria Sarfo, Roselyn Ngissah, Professor Patience Abor (Wegeiwor), Kafui Dey, and journalist Portia Gabor, alongside key figures like Sulemana Braimah, Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa.

The video also showcases sixteen children from the Sap’s School in Teshie, further adding to the song’s universal appeal.

Jackie Ankrah, who holds a Master’s degree in Security Studies and frequently MCs at high-level security engagements, explains that the My Ghana, Your Ghana project has been a “knowledge-led labor of love.”

The song’s moderate tempo is intentionally designed to promote reflection, drawing from UNESCO’s principle that “wars begin in the minds of men.”

She advocates for the inclusion of reflective, peaceful dialogue in Ghanaian music, countering the often protest-focused, high-energy songs typical of political campaigns.

Although the song is timed for the upcoming elections, its message is meant to resonate well beyond them.

It advocates for broadening the definition of stakeholders in peace-building to include women, youth, and other community groups.

The central message is clear: for true peace to prevail, there must be a collective interest in humanity’s betterment, symbolized by My Ghana, Your Ghana.

The video, directed by Lesley Osei Kwame and shot by Boblinkin, showcases a professional and classy production, capturing the grandeur of Independence Square, the Roman Black Star Gate, and the Unknown Warrior Memorial.

The blend of music, stage, and film stars pays homage to the diverse and rich performance culture of Ghana.

Overall, My Ghana, Your Ghana has been met with widespread goodwill, and its message of unity and peace was recently recognized when the group performed at the signing of the Presidential Election Peace Pact 2024 at the Kempinski Hotel.
