It’s a joke – Assibey-Yeboah on Mahama’s promise to reinstate collapsed banks [Audio]

The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) manifesto sub-committee on Economy, Mark Assibey-Yeboah, has criticised the promise of former President John Mahama to reinstate collapsed banks and financial institutions when elected on December 7.

The former New Juaben South Member of Parliament (MP) described the promise as a joke and not feasible.

The National Democratic Congress(NDC) flagbearer has said the restoration of these financial institutions would create jobs and stimulate economic growth.

Mr Mahama explained that, the restoration will be preceded by a comprehensive and unbiased assessment in his quest to stabilise the financial sector and restore public confidence.

But in an interview on Asempa FM Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, Mr Assibey-Yeboah stated that, it was just a wishful thinking, adding the banks are non-existent.

“That’s a joke. How are they going to do it. Let’s take it that in the unlikely event, Mahama is elected President on December 7, the he starts to call the banks to come for their licenses? The banks are all gone; where are they?” he quizzed.

According to him, even if Mr Mahama had promised to allow re-application, that would not even have been a small task.

“It will take about a year for you to get a licence when you apply and you must your GH¢400K. The CEO must be approved by Bank of Ghana, the Directors and all other stakeholders, your premises must be inspected so it entails a lot,” Mr. Assibey-Yeboah added.
