The President of the Ghana Paralympic Committee, Samson Deen, has advised Kofi Adams, the Minister-designate for Sports and Recreation, to ensure equal attention is given to all sports disciplines, rather than focusing solely on football.
Kofi Adams, Member of Parliament for Buem, was nominated in the third batch of ministerial appointments announced on Tuesday. He is expected to face the Vetting Committee in the coming days.
Speaking to JoySports, Samson Deen expressed confidence in Adams’ abilities, stating, “In my opinion, Mr. Kofi Adams is a wonderful personality. With his background as a former youth organizer of the NDC and spokesperson for the Rawlings family, he brings valuable experience and understanding of the sports sector.”
Deen stressed the need to look beyond football, highlighting Ghana’s diverse sporting landscape.
“There are over 50 Olympic sports and 22 disability/para-sports disciplines, including football. Focusing solely on football could hinder the development of other sports, reduce diversity, and cause a loss of potential talent,” he noted.
He also called for fair resource allocation across all sports and suggested creating a dedicated desk at the Sports Ministry to address para-sports needs effectively.
If confirmed, Kofi Adams will take over from Mustafa Ussif, who has served as Sports Minister since 2021 under President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration.
