Ghanaian singer-songwriter Akwaboah has shared the painstaking process behind creating his soulful hit, Hye Me Bo. According to the talented artist, the song took over an entire year to complete, making it his longest project ever.
In an interview on Hitz FM, Akwaboah explained that songwriting usually comes easily to him, depending on his mood. However, love songs often require extra effort to ensure they resonate with reality.
While most of his hit tracks take two to three months to record, he revealed Hye Me Bo got him deeply immersed in his emotions, and he was determined to record not just a song, but a reflection of his heart’s matters.
“It’s not just a song,” Akwaboah explained. “It took getting deep into my emotions. It comes with a vibe, and then you start writing depending on how you feel. You really need to talk to yourself to get it done.”
He admitted that his perfection-seeking approach delayed the process. He would leave the project whenever the lyrics didn’t make sense and return later to ensure every line fit seamlessly.
As he had hoped, the song became a masterpiece—a perfect expression of his vulnerability and fears, while embracing the beauty of love. The song delves into his fear of love, which was influenced by witnessing his father’s bitter experiences. However, after experiencing love himself, he discovered its sweetness, for which he pledged to create lasting memories of love.
The masterpiece was recorded during Akwaboah’s time under Sarkcess Music, six years ago. Since its release, Hye Me Bo has garnered over 1.6 million views and 12,000 likes on YouTube.
