It is wrong for team officials to earn equal or more than players – Kofi Adams

The Minister-designate for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams has expressed concerns over the fairness of management committee members receiving equal or higher rewards than players.

Speaking on Joy Sports, Adams, who represents the Buem constituency, criticized the practice, arguing that while officials play an important role, players should always be the priority when it comes to financial rewards.

“Does it really make sense that I play a full 90-minute game, we win, and I receive a reward—yet someone who didn’t play at all receives the same or even more?” he questioned.

While acknowledging the efforts of team officials, Adams emphasized that their compensation should not exceed or match that of the players who contribute on the field.

“I have no issue with rewarding those who have spent time with the team in a different capacity. However, if their compensation equals or surpasses that of the players who actually take to the field, then I have a personal problem with that.”

Adams’ comments reflect ongoing concerns about how bonuses are distributed within Ghanaian football, particularly during international competitions.

Following a successful vetting, Adams is awaiting official approval to take over his new position, succeeding Mustapha Ussif.
