Asante Kotoko legend Rev. Osei Kofi believes it is a shame that the Black Stars may not qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The senior national team currently sits 3rd in Group F with just two points after four games.
Otto Addo and his team were stunned after losing 1-0 to Angola in their opener at the Baba Yara Stadium before drawing 1-1 with Niger.
In a doubleheader against Sudan, the Black Stars were held to a goalless draw at the Accra Sports Stadium before losing 2-0 in the return leg in Libya.
These results mean Ghana might not qualify for the tournament for the first time in 20 years.
Reflecting on the peak of Ghanaian football, the two-time AFCON winner expressed his disappointment with the current football administration for allowing the team to decline to this level.
“During our peak, we were referred to as the Brazilians of African football. Now, having failed to qualify for the African Cup of Nations in Morocco, we’ve experienced a decline,” Osei Kofi told Graphic Sports.
“However, I believe this will serve as an important lesson for us to improve before the next qualifiers. It’s truly a shame,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, the Black Stars will regroup for their final round of games, facing Angola in Luanda before hosting Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium.
For Ghana to qualify, they will need Sudan, currently in second place with 7 points, to lose their games against Niger and Angola, while they must win against both Angola and Niger.
