Multimedia Group journalist Sweety Aborchie has candidly shared her journey from rags to success, describing it as a journey of dreams and resilience.

The co-host of JoyNews’ breakfast programme, AM Show, emphasized the transformative nature of her life story, stating that it was far from rosy.

“I am a product of dreams and the manifestations of the things I dream about,” she said.

Taking her turn on Adom TV’s M’ashyase3, Sweety told Afia Amankwa Tamakloe that her father had a beautiful work life as an employee at Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC). However, their family life and finances were nothing to write home about as they were poverty-stricken.

Born in Bolgatanga, Sweety revealed she grew up in Lashibi Community 16, where her mother operated a chop bar.

“I have been every kind of girl before. I didn’t come from money while living in Lashibi, but we were known as the poorest family. My father’s work life was beautiful, but coming home, the picture was different,” she recalled.

Due to the family’s situation, the celebrated broadcaster recounted having to live with different relatives at a point in her life.

“I used to move around a lot, and my father always told me I was different and there was something special about me. I don’t know what he saw then, but now I believe it. It hasn’t been all nice and rosy,” she narrated.

Despite her struggles, she defied all odds, and her rise in the media landscape has been driven by her intellect, engaging presence, and commitment to storytelling.

Sweety’s journey began in 2016 when she debuted as a news anchor on GTV Sports+ and took on numerous roles as a producer and director on several popular TV shows in Ghana, including Joy Prime’s Big Chef.

“It was my father’s name that opened the door for my debut on GTV Sports+. George Lomotey, who was my dad’s mentee, took me as his younger sister and gave me my first shot at TV,” she happily stated.

After a brief hiatus, she returned to the screen in 2022 and now hosts the morning show on JoyNews, Ghana’s only 24-hour news channel.

Beyond broadcasting, Sweety has made an impact through Girl Getup Africa, a non-profit organization that provides mentorship, skills training, and resources to young women.
