The mortal remains of former President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Issa Hayatou arrive in Cameroon ahead of his burial today August 16, 2024.
The long-serving former President of CAF will be buried in Garoua, northern Cameroon.
Mr. Hayatou was a savvy deal-maker who was hailed as “the emperor of African soccer,” leading its confederation for nearly 30 years and raising its international profile, including helping to steer the 2010 World Cup to South Africa, a first for the continent.
He died on August 8 in Paris.
He was 77.
