The connection of sex and a glowing skin has always been a thing to talk about, thanks to Indian movies and octogenarian aunties one bumps into at Indian weddings, who always give the sexual act some credit for a woman’s healthy looking skin.
Well, in our quest to find out whether there is an actual relation between the two, we came across a study that will surprise you.
For all those people who have always maintained that a good sex life leads to a brighter skin and shinier hair, there’s a piece of good news – it’s true. And hey, we are not saying that but a team of researchers have concluded a connection between sex and beauty.
According to a study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, carried out by researchers at the University of Michigan, having an orgasm raises the levels of estrogen in your body and since estrogen delays ageing, sex – in a way keeps your skin young, moist and also ups your collagen levels, which in turn keep your skin firm and soft.
So, how does sex actually make your skin glow? Well, it turns out that post-sex afterglow is a thing of reality and not dreams. The study cites that engaging in sex leads ups the heart rate, causing blood flow to increase rapidly. And, that means there’s more oxygen flowing in your body which in turn gives you a more glowing and vibrant skin.
Another study, The Health Benefits of Sexual Expression, conducted over 10 years and involving more than 3,500 women and men examined various factors associated with youthful appearance. The study states, “A panel of judges viewed the participants through a one-way mirror and then guessed the age of each subject. Those women and men whose age was regularly underestimated by seven to 12 years were labeled “superyoung.”
Among these “superyoung” people, one of the strongest correlates of youthful appearance was an active sex life.”
