Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has lauded India’s decision to advocate for the African Union’s (AU) membership in the G20, calling it a significant step towards global inclusivity.
During his visit to India, Mr. Ablakwa stressed the importance of Africa having a stronger voice in global economic and governance discussions. He commended India for its role in promoting Africa’s representation in international decision-making bodies.
“India’s commitment to promoting the African Union’s membership in the G20 is a testament to its dedication to a more inclusive and equitable global order,” he stated.
He further noted that Africa’s representation in the G20 would not only enhance economic cooperation but also provide the continent with a platform to influence critical global policies.
The Minister highlighted Africa’s growing economic and political significance and the necessity for greater integration into global governance structures.
“With Africa’s rising economic significance, it is only right that we have a seat at the table where critical global economic policies are shaped,” he remarked.
Mr. Ablakwa emphasized that India’s support aligns with Ghana’s broader vision of strengthening South-South cooperation.
His visit to India, following an invitation from Indian Foreign Minister His Excellency Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, underscores Ghana’s commitment to deepening diplomatic and economic relations with India.
He reaffirmed Ghana’s support for Africa’s full integration into global institutions and expressed confidence that India’s backing would accelerate the AU’s active participation in the G20.
