Inaki Williams makes history in Athletic Bilbao’s win over Las Palmas

-

Ghana international, Inaki Williams made headlines with his exceptional performance in Athletic Bilbao’s narrow 3-2 victory over Las Palmas in La Liga on Sunday.

The 29-year-old striker delivered three assists, matching his total from the previous season. His contributions were pivotal as Bilbao secured the win.

Williams set up Oihan Sancet for the game’s opening goal just seven minutes in, with Sancet calmly finishing Williams’ precise pass.

Twenty-three minutes later, Williams teamed up with his younger brother, Nico Williams, who scored with a well-placed shot past the Las Palmas goalkeeper.

In the 75th minute, Williams provided his third assist of the night, setting up Aitor Paredes to restore Bilbao’s two-goal lead after Sandro Ramirez had reduced the deficit for Las Palmas.

Despite a second goal from Las Palmas in the 83rd minute, they were unable to level the score.

Williams’ three assists make him the first Bilbao player to achieve a hat-trick of assists in a league match since Fran Yeste did so against Real Betis in 2005.

He is expected to rejoin the Black Stars squad for the upcoming doubleheader against Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers this October.
