Yaa Gifty, the wife of Francis Frimpong, the Asante Kotoko supporter who was tragically stabbed to death is still grappling with the heartbreaking loss.
Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley, met his untimely death after being stabbed by unidentified attackers during Asante Kotoko’s Matchday 19 clash against Nsoatreman FC at the Nana Kormansah II Stadium on Sunday.
Speaking to LUV FM, Gifty expressed her disbelief, revealing that she is still eagerly awaiting her husband’s return after he travelled from Kumasi to watch the game.
Gifty said she is yet to come to terms with her husband’s death but will seek solace in God.
“He told me [he was going to watch the game]. I am waiting for my husband and I have left everything to God,” she said.
Gifty recounted her last conversations with him, explaining that he kept in touch throughout his journey.
“When the bus set off, he called. He did the same when he got to his destination. Even when he called me to tell me he was not being allowed to enter the stadium, I told him, he would go.
“At 3 p.m., my husband had died and I had no idea about it?”
In response to the tragic incident, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has taken immediate action, suspending the league from Matchday 20 onwards.
An emergency meeting with Premier League clubs is scheduled for Thursday to address the situation.
