The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has expressed shock and disappointment over the politicization of a recent crime by the Interior Ministry.
In an interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Nketia said such a comment should not come from a Minister.
“I am shocked that the Interior Ministry would politicize any crime. It should not come from the mouth of the Interior Minister. If the Interior Minister claims the suspect is NDC, why not focus on the crime instead of concentrating on party colors? he questioned.
Mr. Nketia’s comments come in response to Ibrahim Mohammed, who threatened to shoot and harm public officials in a viral video.
The police launched a manhunt for Mohammed after the video, where he, identifying himself as “Commander Kanawu Revolution Leader,” threatened key figures, including the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare, and the Interior Minister, Henry Quartey. Mohammed accused the IGP and the Interior Minister of orchestrating false recruitment into the police force in the Ashanti Region to manipulate the upcoming elections.
But the NDC National Chairman said his party does not have any association with the individual nor does it know anyone like that in the party.
“I don’t know anyone like that in the party. We don’t have any association like that in the party. The fact that someone is NDC doesn’t give them the right to misbehave or to neglect proper conduct. I am so embarrassed that the Interior Minister would say that the person is an NDC member and is disgracing the NDC. Is that the work you are called to do?” he said.
