I’m respectful and never insulted anyone’s father – Mike Oquaye Jnr

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 Parliamentary Candidate for Dome-Kwabenya, Mike Oquaye Jnr, has dismissed allegations of disrespect, calling them baseless and aimed at tarnishing his reputation.

In a statement, he refuted claims that he had insulted anyone’s father, emphasizing his deep respect for farmers due to his own background.

“I have not and will never insult anyone’s father. My paternal grandfather is a farmer, and I am also a part-time farmer. I have never and will never do that. That is not how I was brought up, and those who know me understand that I eschew insults. I am a very private and respectful person,” he stated.

He also rejected accusations that he had ignored former President Nana Akufo-Addo, the Chief of Staff, or other senior party figures, stressing his long-standing commitment to the party’s unity.

“I will never snub the then President, Chief of Staff, or any elderly person who calls me to see them. That is a sign of disrespect, and I am not like that. I have historically shown that, for me, it is always party first,” he added.

Addressing claims of division within the Dome-Kwabenya constituency, Mr. Oquaye Jnr stated that after winning the NPP primaries, he made several attempts to reconcile with his competitors.

“I tried on three occasions to reach out to my opponent after I won the primaries. Madam Sheilla responded, and we chat till today.

“I was rebuffed by the other person, and her special assistant, Nana Dubin, told me after three weeks of trying that she did not want to speak to me,” he disclosed.

While reaffirming his loyalty to the NPP, Mr. Oquaye Jnr said he remains patient and will observe the next steps the party leadership takes regarding the situation.
