I’m happy Mahama has removed Dampare – Security Analyst [Listen]

Security analyst Paul Boateng has expressed satisfaction with President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to remove Dr. George Akuffo Dampare as Inspector General of Police (IGP), stating that he had long advocated for his dismissal.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Boateng argued that Dr Dampare’s tenure was marked by a rise in crime and a lack of effective leadership.

“I am happy Mahama has removed Dampare because I have always called for his removal. He doesn’t know his job, and during his tenure, the crime rate was high. It was disturbing, and he did nothing to help the service,” he stated.

Mr. Boateng further criticized Dampare’s leadership style, describing it as self-centered and ineffective.

“He acted selfishly, and his leadership style was nothing to write home about. Even police officers were not happy within the service. He only used a populist approach rather than real policing,” he added.

He also had an issue with Dampare’s professional background, arguing that his expertise was misplaced in the role of IGP.

“The man is an accountant, and instead of seeking the views of experienced officers, he acted like he knew it all. He came to destroy the service rather than improve it,” he said.

The security analyst believes the appointment of COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new IGP is a step in the right direction.

“COP Yohuno has experience, and I know he will do better. At least, he will mitigate robbery in the country. He should not act based on personal interest but work in the best interest of Ghanaians,” he advised.

He also noted that under COP Yohuno’s leadership, the media will have better access to the police.

COP Yohuno’s appointment follows Mahama’s decision to relieve Dampare of his post.

The appointment, announced by Minister of Government Communication Felix Kwakye Ofosu, was made in consultation with the Council of State.

With 40 years of experience in the Ghana Police Service, Yohuno is expected to lead the modernization and transformation of the force.
