Finance Minister-designate Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has pledged commitment to move Ghana out of its current economic challenges, tackling high inflation, cedi depreciation, and unemployment.

The Majority Leader has stated that he will draw on his vast experience in public service and finance to drive economic stability and growth.

“I come to this position very well prepared. With 16 years in public service, including a stint as Deputy Minister of Finance, and experience in the private sector, I have carefully studied the trends and behavior of Ghana’s economy. I believe I am in a better place to move our country from these uncharted waters to a stable place.

“I will do whatever it takes to move this economy from the crisis that we are in today to where we have to be,” he stated.

With inflation at 28.3%, primarily driven by food inflation at 27.8%, Dr. Forson emphasized the importance of targeted interventions in agriculture to improve the affordability and accessibility of food.

“As Minister, I will allocate resources to support the government’s agriculture policies for economic transformation, working closely with the Minister of Agriculture to make food cheaper and protect food security,” he assured.

Dr. Forson recognized the challenges of high unemployment and the depreciation of the cedi, expressing his commitment to stabilizing the currency and creating jobs.

He promised to take decisive and responsible action, keeping in mind his past criticisms of economic mismanagement.

Meanwhile, the Minister-designate called for a collective effort in addressing Ghana’s economic challenges.

He emphasized that constructive criticism and collaboration would be crucial to achieving the country’s economic recovery goals.
