The Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries Limited, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, has warned employees against partaking in Organised Labour‘s intended strike against galamsey.
Mr Jumha has vowed that he will sack any staff who decides to join the nationwide action.
Organised Labour has declared that it will embark on a strike effective October 10 over government’s inaction in fighting the galamsey crisis.
Some unions have massively endorsed the action but others have also opposed it over what they have described as the lack of extensive consultation.
The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has also also said it stands in solidarity with Organised Labour but has directed members to continue to provide full services.
But Mr Jumah maintained that, the basis for the strike are national concerns and do not directly affect GIHOC, hence his message of caution.
“If you like, don’t report to work. Anyone who joins them will be sacked. I am saying this on authority. There are labour laws in the country. Let the issue be a national concern, not GIHOC’s own.
“If someone doesn’t sleep well and says things, then you follow. So, if you like, follow them and see. They should not even waste our time because we are wise people at GIHOC,” he warned.
