Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey has sworn to retire former MP and New Patriotic Party(NPP) parliamentary candidate, Paul Essien from politics.
She has indicated that, given the massive infrastructural development that has taken place under her tenure, the 2024 election will be an easy victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Mr. Essien defeated former MP Samia Nkrumah to win the seat in the 2016 election. After just one term in Parliament, he lost his seat to Madam Affo-Toffey in the 2020 general election but is hopeful about making a strong comeback on December 7 to reclaim the seat.
However, speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Madam Affo-Toffey stated that her main contender stands no chance in the election.
“I will retire my opponent in politics. As a first-time MP, I am not mute; I’m effective in the constituency. Jomoro will go 100 years back if Paul Essien is re-elected. We will be dead, but he will never be elected again. This is his last time contesting; I will retire him. I’m saying it with authority,” she said.
Affo-Toffey, who has positioned herself as a champion of women’s rights and social development, declared that she stands tall in her track record in the constituency.
She promised to remain committed to providing better educational opportunities and improving infrastructure in the constituency if re-elected.
With barely 36 days until the general election, Madam Affo-Toffey faces fierce competition from Mr. Essien and Samia Nkrumah, who is also a former MP.
