Leader of the New Force political movement, Nana Kwame Bediako, has committed to reviving the polluted Densu River in Oparekrom, a community heavily impacted by illegal mining activities.
The pledge was made during the first day of his regional and 276 constituency campaign tour aimed at addressing the challenges of poverty and environmental degradation across the country.
During his visit to the Densu River, he lamented how the once significant water body is almost dried up and polluted due to galamsey activities.
According to him, the river was a vital resource to the residents, aiding in transportation and economic activities.
Nana Kwame Bediako assured the residents of doing his possible best to restore the river to its former state.
“We were taught about Densu river in school. It was a significant waterbody which holds cultural values. It has become a symbol of environmental neglect and destruction, but we will fix it. God bless this water and God bless the people,” he preached.
Mr. Bediako’s visit to Oparekrom forms part of his wider political campaign, where he is engaging directly with communities to expose the extent of poverty and the detrimental effects of illegal mining on Ghana’s natural resources.
