The former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu Boahene, remains confident of his innocence despite allegations of embezzling GH₵39 million in state funds.

Mr. Adu Boahene appeared in court on Friday, March 28, 2025, for a bail application hearing.

He was in high spirits as he exited the Accra Human Rights Court in handcuffs after his bail was reduced from GH₵120 million to GH₵80 million.

JoyNews’ Latif Iddrisu, who was at the court premises, asked if he was certain of proving his innocence.

Without hesitation, Mr. Adu Boahene responded, “Definitely. I have not been charged with anything yet, none whatsoever. I will come out innocent.”

Mr. Boahene has been in custody at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) since his arrest on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) upon his return from London.

His wife, Angela Adjei Boateng, was also detained over her alleged involvement in the case.

During the hearing, Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem Sai alleged that Angela attempted to destroy evidence by carting suspected currency bills into suitcases on the night of her husband’s arrest.

The couple has been ordered to report to EOCO three times a week. Their travel has also been restricted and can only be permitted under EOCO’s authorization.
