President-elect John Dramani Mahama has vowed to focus on improving the lives of Ghana’s youth following his victory in the December 7 general elections.
Speaking in an interview with DW TV on Monday, December 16, Mahama expressed a deep sense of responsibility to meet the aspirations of the country’s younger generation, whose enthusiasm and high expectations during his campaign rallies served as a powerful reminder of the challenges ahead.
Emerging victorious with 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55 percent of the valid ballots, Mahama defeated his closest rival, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who secured 4,657,304 votes (41.61 percent).
Reflecting on his campaign experience, Mahama described how inspired he was by the optimism displayed by young Ghanaians.
“Looking at the faces of the young people I saw at all the rallies and the high expectations they have in our government gives me a humble feeling and a sense of preparing to give it my best so that I can turn this country around and create a better future for our young people,” he remarked.
He outlined his vision of a “reset” for Ghana, aimed at creating an environment where young people can thrive and achieve their full potential.
“We need a reset so that we can create a better environment for our young people to thrive and create enough opportunity for them to be able to realize their full potential,” Mahama explained.
The President-elect also acknowledged the struggles faced by many young Ghanaians, who, despite their talents and hard work, often encounter limited opportunities.
Mr. Mahama pledged that his administration would foster an inclusive environment where every young Ghanaian, regardless of their background, can dream big and succeed.
