IGP Yohuno’s mother laid to rest

Madam Comfort Borteley Lokpo Tawiah, mother of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno, was laid to rest last Saturday following a funeral ceremony at the forecourt of the State House in Accra.

The event drew a diverse gathering of dignitaries, including ministers of state, Members of Parliament, politicians from across the political spectrum, traditional and Muslim leaders, clergy, and high-ranking officials of the Ghana Police Service, including serving commanders, regional, divisional, and district officers, as well as several retired IGPs.

Officiating the burial service, Rev. Lawrence Tetteh underscored the importance of leaving behind meaningful legacies. He urged Ghanaians in positions of influence to lead exemplary lives and contribute to national and community development.

Rev. Tetteh cautioned against the abuse of power, stressing that leadership must be anchored in humility and support for others.

“People should not use their positions to antagonise or intimidate their subordinates but rather help them overcome their shortcomings,” he said.

The following day, Rev. Tetteh also preached at a thanksgiving service held at Joy House of Peace Chapel International in Lashibi, near Tema, where he encouraged the congregation to commit their lives to God to secure salvation.

He also praised the late Madam Tawiah for her role in raising Mr Yohuno, describing the IGP as “selfless, humble, respectful, and assiduous.”

Rev. Tetteh thanked former President John Mahama for appointing Mr Yohuno as IGP, noting that he became the second Krobo citizen to hold the office, following the late E. R. T. Madjitey, the first Ghanaian and Krobo to assume the position.

In an emotional tribute, IGP Yohuno revealed that his mother had once predicted he would become Inspector General of Police, though she sadly passed away before witnessing his appointment. He credited her wisdom and guidance for shaping his path and prayed for her eternal rest.

The thanksgiving service also featured remarks from Madam Irene Naa Torshie Addo, immediate past Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund, and Prophetess Salomey Menzo, leader of Joy House of Peace Chapel International.

President John Mahama and Chief of Staff Julius Debrah sent donations to the bereaved IGP through their representatives.
