IGP leads delegation to Bawku after violent clash

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has led a high-level delegation to Bawku in the Upper East Region following a violent clash between local youth and police personnel.

According to a statement from the Ghana Police Service on April 10, 2025, the IGP’s team, comprising operations, investigation, and intelligence officers, is in Bawku to assess the security situation and provide on-the-ground support.

The incident, which took place on April 9, resulted in the death of a civilian, Fuseini Iddrisu, and left five others injured, including a police officer and an immigration officer.

Police vehicles, rented accommodations, and officers’ residences were also damaged during the unrest.

Calm was restored in the area through a joint effort by the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces. Security has been intensified, with ongoing joint police and military patrols in Bawku and surrounding communities.

The IGP and his team are expected to visit the injured, console bereaved families, and offer support to affected officers.

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public of its commitment to maintaining law and order in collaboration with the military, traditional leaders, and other stakeholders.
