If they want a second round of vetting, I am ready for them – Ablakwa

Foreign Affairs Minister nominee, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has declared his willingness to undergo a second round of vetting by the Appointments Committee if required.

“If they want a second round of vetting, I am ready for them,” he stated in a Facebook post following the abrupt suspension of his vetting due to a disagreement.

Before the suspension, Mr. Ablakwa had already faced intense questioning from the Minority Leader for several hours.

The sudden halt in proceedings was triggered by a ruling from Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, suspending four MPs involved in a recent chaotic incident, which affected the composition of the Appointments Committee.

In his post, the North Tongu MP accused the minority of deliberately avoiding his vetting.

“They had every opportunity when I appeared before them for vetting, but they chose to run away. They had every opportunity when they were in power for eight years to have me prosecuted, but they failed because there was nothing they could find.”

Mr. Ablakwa, who also chairs the government’s Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL), defended his firm stance on accountability, stating that advocating for the protection of public resources is not a crime.

“It is not a crime for a Member of Parliament to patriotically and diligently seek the protection of public resources and state assets,” he emphasized.

“Those on the side of truth and justice can never be intimidated. I shall remain focused on President Mahama’s exciting reset innovations, which we are on the verge of implementing at the Foreign Ministry,” he added.
