In a powerful induction ceremony, the President of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Ghana, Engr. Henry Kwadwo Boateng, emphasized the paramount importance of ethics and integrity in the engineering profession.
As new members joined the ranks of dedicated professionals, they were reminded that upholding the highest standards is not just a responsibility but a mindset that drives them to do what is right.
Engr. Boateng outlined key principles to guide their decisions and actions, including adhering to codes and standards, being honest and transparent, maintaining confidentiality, and continuously learning and improving.
He also stressed the importance of reporting unethical behavior and taking responsibility for one’s actions.
However, he also cautioned against compromising safety, misrepresenting one’s work, engaging in conflicts of interest, discriminating or harassing others, and plagiarizing or stealing ideas.
He urged members to wield their power responsibly and ethically, remembering that it has been entrusted to them for the greater good.
At the induction ceremony, new members were given certificates as a testament to their joining a professional body.
They were reminded that upholding integrity and ethics is essential to maintaining public trust and ensuring the engineering profession’s reputation.
Engr. Boateng emphasized that unethical behavior can have severe and long-lasting consequences, affecting not only individuals but organizations and society as a whole.
In all, 200 new engineers were inducted, with their families present to share in their glory.
