At the 38th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Institution of Engineering and Technology Ghana (IET-GH), over 200 newly inducted engineers were officially welcomed into the ranks of the nation’s engineering community.
The event, held under the theme “Driving Sustainable Development through Innovative Engineering Solutions,” was a powerful reminder of the critical role that engineers play in shaping the future of Ghana through creativity, innovation, and a commitment to sustainability.
Addressing the new inductees, IET-GH President Engr. Henry Kwadwo Boateng delivered an inspiring speech that resonated deeply with both the newly inducted engineers and the distinguished guests in attendance.
He emphasized that the future of Ghana—and indeed, the world—rests in the hands of engineers who must now step forward to drive change and development.
“As engineers, you are not just problem solvers; you are innovators and visionaries. The world is evolving at an unprecedented pace, and it is through innovation and creative thinking that we will meet the challenges of today and tomorrow,” said Engineer Boateng.
He urged the new members to leverage their knowledge, skills, and expertise to create sustainable engineering solutions that not only enhance infrastructure but also contribute to the social, economic, and environmental well-being of the nation.
The AGM also featured a panel discussion made up of leading experts in various engineering fields, delved into the critical issues facing the engineering sector today on the theme.
They shared insights on how innovation can be harnessed to address pressing challenges such as climate change, urbanization, and energy sustainability.
The discussion was thought-provoking, with the experts highlighting the urgency of adopting green technologies, smart city solutions, and sustainable practices in infrastructure development.
Their collective message was clear: engineers must not only be technically proficient but must also prioritize the future of the planet and its resources in every solution they craft.
Another key highlight of the AGM was the official launch of the IET-GH Institutional Anthem, composed by Dr. Samuel Agbenyo.
The anthem, which will be performed at all future IET-GH events, serves as a rallying cry for the institution’s members to unite around their shared mission: driving innovation and excellence in engineering for the betterment of Ghana and beyond.
The lyrics of the anthem capture the essence of IET-GH’s vision—engineering the growth of Mother Ghana, transforming the future, and positioning the institution as a beacon of hope for generations to come.
As part of the ceremony, several of the newly inducted engineers shared their reflections on the importance of innovation and their role in advancing national development.
Engineer Sebastian Selorm, one of the newly inducted members, spoke passionately about his vision for the future.
“We have a responsibility to use our knowledge to build a better society,” Engineer Selorm remarked, echoing President Boateng’s call for engineers to think beyond technical solutions and consider the broader impact of their work on society and the environment.
His words served as a reminder that the responsibility of engineers extends far beyond the drawing board—it encompasses social, ethical, and environmental considerations that will shape the future of Ghana.
The induction ceremony was not just a formal event; it was a celebration of potential.
The over 200 engineers who were inducted into IET-GH on that day are now part of a larger movement working towards innovative, sustainable, and inclusive development in Ghana.
The ceremony reinforced the institution’s commitment to promoting the highest standards of engineering practice and professional integrity.
As the new members take their oaths and officially join the ranks of the IET-GH, the message is clear: the work they are about to embark upon is not just about technical proficiency, but about the power of engineering to change lives, transform communities, and build a sustainable future for all.
The event concluded on a high note, with a renewed sense of purpose and unity among members, both new and old.
For IET-GH, this AGM and induction ceremony marked a pivotal moment in the institution’s journey—one where innovation, collaboration, and sustainability will continue to drive progress and shape the future of Ghana’s engineering sector.
