About 300 of the 560 dams under the flagship One-District-One-Dam project are 90 percent complete, Minister of Special Development Initiative, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has said.
According to her, the spillways, embankment and grazing and other final works make up the 10 percent that will make the dams 100 percent complete.

Hon Koomson revealed this in an exclusive interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, Friday.
To prevent evaporation, the Special Development Initiative Minister said the ministry intends to develop a green belt around the dams by planting trees along the banks to avert any accidents in the future.
She noted that the areas where the dams are 90% complete include: Bulsa North and South, Chiana Paga, Pusiga, Bolgatanga East and Central, Bawku Central, Wa East and West, Binduri and Nandom, among others.

She bemoaned the attempts by people to run down their good works when all they are doing is to serve the public’s good and interest.
“We are really working hard to ensure the five Northern regions get water all year round so we are not bothered about machinations of detractors,” she added.

The Special Development Initiative Minister expressed appreciation to the chiefs who have willingly offered lands for the project.
She assured of prompt completion of all the dams before 2020.
